Game, Set, Home: The EPATT Center

East Palo Alto’s New Tennis & Learning Hub

The EPATT Center is more than just a facility—it’s a milestone for East Palo Alto. For the first time in three decades, local youth have a dedicated space in their backyard where they can learn, train, and build community. Designed to expand opportunity, the EPATT Center reflects our belief that every student deserves access to high-quality academic support and tennis programming, right where they live.

Welcome to East Palo Alto’s Newest Hub for Growth, Learning, and Play
After decades without public courts, East Palo Alto finally has a place for young athletes to grow, train, and thrive, right in their own neighborhood. This Palo Alto Weekly article features the story of how our supporters helped bring six brand new tennis courts and four classrooms to life at Cesar Chavez Ravenswood Middle School. We're HOME.

From revitalized programming to vibrant new facilities, here are just a few ways this center is already making a difference:

  • Brand-new home courts – Six vibrant, blue‑and‑green tennis courts unveiled in June 2025 at Cesar Chavez Ravenswood Middle School — the first public courts in East Palo Alto in decades.

  • Inclusive access – Used by kids as young as kindergarten through high school, and hosting community summer camps, local tournaments, and the middle school tennis team.

  • Historic program revitalized – The East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring (EPATT) program, founded in 1988, returns to its roots after years off-site.

  • Expanded learning spaces – Four bright, tennis-themed portable classrooms adjacent to the courts support year-round tutoring.

  • Impressive academic gains – In the 2023‑24 school year, 96% of participating 6th–7th graders were 3+ years below grade; by year’s end, 60% had advanced at least two grade levels.

  • Local leadership & continuity – The majority of coaches, teachers, and interns grew up through EPATT and returned to give back.

  • Community impact goals – The center aims to address broader issues like obesity, asthma, mental health, and physical activity through inclusive programming for youth and seniors
